Roxybot is a celebrity body guard turned 80’s rock star robot. She is sassy, opinionated, ambitious, and a little out there. She is working on her first album which is a blend of electropunk and folktronica.
Roxybot is also a plush doll created by Stuffed Robot in 2005. Stuffed Robot is a company of sorts formed by three people, Jessie Vogel, Patrick Moberg, and me, Bill Brown. We make a lot of things, but we mainly work on plush robots. Even though we first started doing this in 2005, this year (2009) we decided to take a different route and re-launch each of our toys for a final last hurrah. We re-launched 100 Mellowtrons in early Febuary, and we are now working on our next design, Roxybot. This tumblr is a place for anyone to see how we go from design, to production, to the website with the stuff we make, in this case Roxybot the punk rock robot.
here is a pic we got from our manufacturing rep of different striped arm fabrics. The one we wanted (blue and red) isnt in this grouping, but we got a confirmation that they found some elsewhere. These are just the colors that they had on hand for the prototype.
the stickers came in and they look pretty good.
the roxybot shipping bags came in, and we silk-screened ‘Stuffed Robot’ on em. Turned out pretty well. The ink definitely sits on top of the material, but it works.
For Roxybot we are going to ship her out in bags instead of boxes. Even though we like the angular box, the bag makes a lot more since for shipping plush stuff. We are still planning on printing ‘Stuffed Robot’ on the outside - in hot pink this time instead of baby blue. We bought these poly mailers through Uline.
We ordered this vinyl stickers today from a place called Frontier Label. They did the Mellowtron gauge stickers, and those turned out great, so we decided to go for it again.
We just sent these images over to the manufacturer for the embroidery machine. My understanding of this machine is pretty hazy, but it turns my .jpg into some file the embroidery machine can read, and then it sews it up.
After finalizing a design, we sent this image to our manufacturer. This has a diagram of her overall size, and an image showing her embroidery details.
last night we looked at these 6 Roxybotdesigns. We came to a conclusion of a mix-up of almost all 6 drawings.
a lot of Roxybot development going on this past week. Story + Design. Tonight we are having a meeting to finalize the design before sending it to the manufacturer.
We’ve been looking at some glam rockers to get an idea for Roxy’s face. I think we might loose the starglasses and go with some robot face paint.
